Repfest in Africa
In October 2019, Repton Literary Festival with the support of National Literacy Trust ran an essay competition in local South Derbyshire schools.
With the help of Kids League Uganda, an international charity, a parallel competition was held amongst schools in Uganda.
Book prizes were awarded to winners offering the most creative essays and the winning essays were read out by celebrity actors at the festival with the overall winner of the competition (from Repton Primary School) present to receive her book and meet the celebrities.
This has led to us establishing a twinning project between
Repton Primary School
St Edwards Primary School Castle Donnington
Kongowea Primary School in Mombasa, Kenya
Kengeleni Primary School in Mombasa, Kenya
Our Twinning project benefits from the “Connecting Classrooms” programme funded by the British Council which provides training on best practice for developing global twinning links and is implemented by Global Education Derby. https://connectingclassrooms.britishcouncil.org/
A teacher exchange under the auspices of the British Council is planned for 2022
In addition to our twinning project and with the help of Derby South Rotary we are also raising funds to equip a library at Celebration High School in Mombassa.
